Why Dates?

Brain Health

Evidence from recent studies show and suggest that boron contained in dates, coupled with the high amounts of minerals such as calcium, manganese, potassium, and magnesium, may make it an excellent agent for strengthening bones. These minerals and nutrients may also be used in preserving bone health and fighting off diseases such as osteoporosis, especially in older adults.

Bone Health

Studies have discovered that dates assist in reducing inflammatory markers in the brain, for instance: interleukin 6. Concentrated levels of interleukin 6 is known to carry higher risk of neurodegenerative disease(s). More, animal experiments found that dates are helpful in preventing plaque formation in the brain by lowering the activity of amyloid brain proteins. Important to note: Human studies are of necessity to confirm the relation between dates and brain health.

Antioxidant Levels

Antioxidants are disease-fighters in the body and offer a reduced risk of a multitude of illnesses.  Coincidentally, when compared to similar types of fruit (dried, figs) dates often hold the highest level of antioxidants. Let’s look over the antioxidants present in dates:

  • Phenolic Acid: May aid in reducing risk of cancers and heart disease, also known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Carotenoids: Proven to assist in heart health, may lower risk of eye-related diseases.
  • Flavonoids: A particularly strong antioxidant; may help in treating inflammation. Additionally, flavonoids have the potential to reduce risk of cancers, diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s.
